STEM at Summit Academy Charter School is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering, and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, our STEM program integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.
Through STEM education, scholars learn to become problem solvers, innovators, creators, and collaborators and go on to fill the critical pipeline of engineers, scientists, and innovators, so essential to the future of New York and the nation. All young people should be prepared to think deeply and to think well so that they have the chance to become educators, researchers, and leaders who can solve the most pressing challenges facing our nation and our world, both today and tomorrow.
Recently, Summit Academy partnered with Amazon Future Engineers Program to bring Introduction to Computer Science to high school students and an introductory course based on the MyCS Scratch curriculum that empowers middle school students to engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem-solving, and fun. The Amazon Future Engineer is a comprehensive childhood-to-career program aimed at increasing access to computer science education for children and young adults from underserved and underrepresented communities.
